Bolki Chrome Extension

Effective Date: May 19, 2025

Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how Bolki ("we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our Chrome extension.

1. Information We Collect

We collect only the minimum amount of data necessary to provide and improve the functionality of the Bolki Chrome Extension.

a. Local Storage Data

  • • We store user preferences (such as selected voice, language, and speech rate) and session state data locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API.
  • • No personal data is stored in our servers unless otherwise specified. Bolki does not use any external servers or APIs to store user data.

b. Identity Information

  • • If you choose to sign in using your Google account, we use Chrome's identity API to authenticate you. This allows us to sync preferences or enable premium features.
  • • Sign-in is required to access core functionality of the extension.
  • • We do not access or store your password or any personally identifiable information beyond authentication tokens.

c. Usage Data

  • • Basic anonymized usage data may be collected to help us improve the extension, such as feature usage frequency. This does not include personal or browsing data.
  • • We do not track your browsing history or collect any information from tabs unless you explicitly activate the extension on that page.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information for the following purposes:

  • • To remember your settings and preferences for a personalized experience.
  • • To enable key functionality like speech playback of webpage content.
  • • To improve performance and fix bugs through anonymized usage statistics.
  • • To authenticate your identity (if sign-in is used).

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

3. Permissions Explanation

Bolki requests the following Chrome extension permissions solely to enable intended functionality:

storage:

To save your speech preferences and login state.

activeTab:

To access the content of the current tab when the user triggers the extension.

scripting:

To inject content scripts that extract visible or selected text.

identity:

To enable secure sign-in (if applicable).

Permissions are used only in response to direct user interaction and never run in the background without consent.

4. Data Security

We use industry-standard security measures to protect any data handled by the extension. Where applicable, authentication is handled via secure OAuth2 flows provided by Google Chrome APIs.

5. Children's Privacy

Bolki is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
